Karen Rubiano
My name is Karen Rubiano González, I am student of mechanical engineering. I was born in the city of Barranquilla - Colombia, although my whole family is from the center of the country, more precisely from the department of Cundinamarca and Boyaca. In my free time I like to draw and skate, I am passionate about nature and art as well as writing. One of my big dreams is to be able to travel the world and see as many places and cultures as possible.
Brazilian culture
Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world, its official language is Portuguese and Brazil's national dish is feijoada, which consists of a black bean stew with pork, beef and other ingredients. This country has the largest Art Deco style statue in the world, El Cristo Rey, which is one of the best known and most visited tourist places. On the other hand, Brazil is also recognized for the Brazilian carnival that takes place every year where the different styles of musical dances stand out, such as: samba, ossa nova, brega and frevo. Another important form of dance is capoeira, which combines martial arts, music, and dance in a fighting style.
Gender stereotype
A gender stereotype that is seen a lot among Brazilians is the thought that women cannot participate in sports because it is against their nature, it is not even acceptable for women to present sports news because they are not considered capable. However, this has changed over time and it has been possible to have a little more participation of women in sports, but it is still considerably low. In Colombia, this type of gender discrimination is not as marked as that of Brazil, but nevertheless for the launch of the women's soccer team there was little support from the managers.
Another important aspect is the thinking of foreigners with respect to Brazilians, in this case foreigners imagine that Brazilian women are exotic women with exuberant curves and that they can be obtained easily because they are often considered prostitutes. On the other hand, foreigners consider Brazilian men as fun and friendly. This image is very similar to the one that foreigners have of Colombians
Hofsted's culture model
Brazil and Colombia are countries latin American and together they share the Amazon rainforest. Colombia is on the border of Brazil although Brazil is larger than Colombia. In cultural terms there are significant differences, significant Hofsted's culture dimension we can see that Brazil has a behavior similar to that of Colombia, but Colombia is more collective than Brazil, with a difference of 25 points in the Hofstede study. In addition, Brazil proved to be a society that focuses more on long-term success than short-term.
On the other hand, Colombia with a score of 64 stands out compared to Brazil as a more masculine country, that is Colombians are more competitive than Brazilians and always seek to belong to groups that grant them status.
